Navigating the Plutchik 3D Emotion Wheel

A step-by-step guide to using our interactive 3D color wheel to explore primary emotions, subtle blends, and emotional intensity.

What is the Emotion Wheel?

Created by psychologist Robert Plutchik, the emotion wheel is like a color wheel for human feelings. It organizes all human emotions into 8 basic families: 1. Joy (Optimism, Serenity, Ecstasy) 2. Trust (Acceptance, Admiration) 3. Fear (Apprehension, Terror) 4. Surprise (Distraction, Amazement) 5. Sadness (Pensiveness, Grief) 6. Disgust (Boredom, Loathing) 7. Anger (Annoyance, Rage) 8. Anticipation (Interest, Vigilance)

How to Navigate the Wheel in ReAlign

Using the wheel is intuitive and tactile:

  1. Open the Wheel: Tap the Emotion icon or select "Mood Check-in" from your dashboard.
  2. Choose a Core Family: Tap the broad color that matches your state (e.g. Sage Green for Trust, Soft Blue for Sadness, Warm Brass for Anticipation).
  3. Adjust Intensity: Notice how the center of the wheel represents intense feelings (like Rage or Ecstasy), while the outer petals represent gentler states (like Annoyance or Serenity).
  4. Select Emotion Blends: You can select up to 3 emotions at once to capture mixed feelings, such as feeling both "Excited" and "Nervous" before a big presentation.
