Using the Grounded Affirmations Library

Why cheesy "toxic positivity" affirmations fail, and how grounded, realistic reminders help rewire self-talk.

Grounded Affirmations vs. Toxic Positivity

If you are having a horrible day and force yourself to chant "I am completely happy and everything is perfect!", your subconscious brain immediately rejects it as a lie. This is called toxic positivity, and it often makes people feel worse.

Grounded affirmations are realistic, fair, and compassionate. They acknowledge that things are difficult while reminding you of your resilience.

Examples of Grounded Reminders

• "I don't have to have everything figured out right now. I just need to get through this afternoon." • "My worth as a human is not determined by how many items I crossed off my to-do list today." • "It is okay to feel hurt. Feeling hurt means I care, not that I am weak."
